So ready for Spring!

Here in NC the winter weather this year has been brutal! It has been so cold and rainy this year that we are ready for a little bit of warmer weather. Friday morning it was once again cold and raining so Darlene and I decided to pull out the flower beads and start making some fun new spring designs. We hoped that it would lighten the dull mood. Well let me tell you...we had a blast making these new designs. Working with all the varieties of flower beads at the shop was such a breath of fresh air. I loved making the necklaces but they seem to take forever to make because you have to put all the flowers on head pins and make the wraps before you can even start thinking about putting the necklace together. With Darlene's help I made two different versions of the flower necklace. A few days earlier i had gotten Darlene started on making a bracelet with the flowers embellishing the top of the bracelet. The bracelet turned out great but there are a few minor adjustments to do to it before I decide to do a Pattern and video for it. Darlene was so excited because she finally got the bracelet finished while we were working on the other flower pieces. She had been working on it on and off for a couple of days so she was relieved to finally have the project completed. Below are pictures of what we made Friday. I still have a lot of earring ideas that I'm working on with the flowers and hope to be able to post some pics for you this week. For now though I have included pictures of the finished necklaces and bracelet as well as a picture of Darlene hard at work on some of our samples.

Had a wonderful day today!

I had the most wonderful day today.  Below is a picture of Marie. She learned of my videos from her friend Pat. Marie started making plans a few months ago to come and visit my store. It's always a humbling experience for me when someone calls and wants to come and visit. To know that someone enjoys my vidoes enough that they would take the time out of their vacation or schedule to come and see me is humbling. From the time Marie walked in the door today I felt like I had made a new wonderful friend. She stayed with me all day today and started making 3 lovely projects. In the picture below she is modeling one of her finished pieces. She was a wonderful student! Never in a million years did I think I would get to meet so many wonderful people through my videos. I love my job!

Oh by the way....I have had a lot of people asking. Thankfully I am feeling much better!  For now the sickness seems to have passed.  Thank you to everyone who said a little prayer for me! We got to hear the baby's heart beat on Wednesday.  Sammy is happy happy and excited as all get out.  Our family is now in the process of taking bets as to what the sex of the baby will be. I feel like it's a boy but a lot of people are thinking it's a girl. Guess we'll find out April 10th!

January.....Blah Blah Blah

So sorry for the absence but January has been a really odd month for me.

The week before Christmas I found out that I was pregnant. Needless to say it was a surprise. We told our immediate family on Christmas Day and everyone was ecstatic! Sammy and I have been married for 10 years so I'm pretty sure our parents had given up on us ever having them any grandchildren. Everyone asked me had I been sick. I said no, that I had been really lucky.  I should have NEVER said that! The day after Christmas I woke up so sick and it has continued through the whole month of January. It wouldn't have been so bad but the morning sickness seems to last all day and then about 10:00 at night I start feeling awesome and am ready to conquer the world. The nausea was so bad that some days I couldn't even get off the couch. I tried every old wives tale and got tons of advice from new mothers but nothing I try seems to work. I finally had to resort to take a medication that seems to help but knocks me out for hours at a time. Sammy has been a champ through all of it. He has treated me like a queen and has really picked up the slack at the shop. I wasn't able to come to work but about 4 or 5 days the whole month of January so you can imagine at this point how far behind I am on everything.

Then this past Thursday rolled around. I started to feel more sluggish than normal. Should have known at that point something was wrong. I woke up at 5:00am on Friday so sick. I was throwing up everything. I couldn't even keep water down. The Dr called me in something and it helped me feel a little better. Saturday I woke up feeling like a champ. I got up and washed everything in the house that could be washed and Lysoled the whole house hoping that Sammy wouldn't get the virus. I swear I wouldn't wish that stomach virus on my worst enemy. Then Sunday morning about 3:00am I woke up sick again and I was so weak I couldn't hardly walk. Sammy woke up about 5:00 and took me to the ER. They pumped me full of fluids, took blood, gave me something to help me rest, and did an ultrasound to make sure the baby was OK. I haven't had an ultrasound at the Dr's office yet so this would be the first time that we would be able to see our baby. It was the most amazing experience to see that little life form. Up until then I don't think that the fact that I was pregnant felt real to me. I am look forward to the end of January. I'm hoping that with the end of January comes the end of sickness.

If it's the Lord will then Baby Dale will make an appearance in August. We are trying our best to keep all the videos and tutorials on track but we may hit some bumps in the road. I just ask that everyone be patient with us as Sammy and I go through this new phase of our lives.

From Christmas to Valentines Day

It seems crazy that Christmas has already come and gone. For months I look forward to the holiday and we all crazily prepare for the big day for it to be over in a matter of hours. Its kind of sad in a way but I wouldn't trade it for the world. For those of us who know the true reason for the season it is a wonderous and joyful occassion. With it being over I now have to focus my attention on the next holiday which is Valentines Day. I know it seems crazy thinking of it so fast but it will be here before we know it. I have been busily working on some new heart designs for 2013. For the first video of the year I will be showing how to make this super cute 3D heart ring. I love this little ring and everyone who has seen it at the shop so far has loved it!

Working on kits

Every year for Christmas one of the things I ask for from my in laws is a new beading kit. I scour the Internet looking for projects that look interesting and send the links to Patty. She then surprises me on Christmas morning with a bright shiny new kit to work on. Last year she got me several and there is one that I had yet to tackle until tonight.

I was immediately drawn to this kit because of the beaded beads. Anyone who knows me knows that I love beaded beads. I do believe though that I have finally met a beaded bead that I can live the rest of my life and feel fine if I never make one again.

This beaded bead is simple in concept. Basically it's a base beaded bead that you then embellish. The thing I don't like about it is the fact that you have to use illusion cord and by the time you get to the end you can hardly get your thread through the beads. The illusion cord makes the bead super stiff but boy is that stuff a pickle to work with after its been wrapped around a little disc for over a year :(

Just because I HATE this beaded bead it won't stop me from finishing the necklace. As the old saying goes "take one step at a time" but in my case I'm going to take it one bead at a time. I think I still have 3 or 4 more beaded beads to make and they are different so maybe it won't be so bad. I'm going to have to go and bury my poor big eye needle tomorrow though. I started using it about halfway through so that I could get the thread through and let's just say that it has now seen its better days!

If your interested in the kit or pattern you can check out her website or etsy store that is one the first picture.

Big Color for 2013.......

Every year Pantone choses a color that will be seen widely throughout the year.  2013's color is going to be Emerald. It's the color of Oz and one of the most abundant colors in nature.  For all you jewelry designers out there you may want to start stocking up and making jewelry with this color!

Feeling Accomplished!

Today I feel a feeling of accomplishment!  I got the rest of my Christmas cards sent out.  I love Christmas because its the one time of year when I get to send out cards. Christmas Cards are becoming a lost art as our society depends more and more on social media. When I was a kid I loved to go to our family mail box and get the cards out of the box. When we got home mom would let me open them and I loved to see the shiny glittery festive colors.

When I was old enough to make my own money I started mailing out Christmas cards to my family. Then when Sammy and I got married I was so excited because I got to add a whole more people to my card list. I just love stuffing envelopes with my own personal holiday cheer. I guess I just have that hope that when someone opens their Christmas card they are as happy to receive it as I am to send it.

With that being said, I was so excited yesterday to receive a large package in the mail. Last month I joined a charm swap from one of my yahoo groups. The package had all sorts of lovely charms sent from all over the United States. I put them on my chain but haven't had a chance to put the clasp on yet. I will defiantly do another swap in the future!
